Architectural Space Integration Challenges
Lake Geneva Spice Co. needed a commercial cigar humidor cabinet built around an existing masonry chimney, which meant a standard rectangular cabinet was not going to solve the problem cleanly. The obstruction took up valuable wall space and created an awkward condition behind the display area. Leaving a gap would have looked unfinished, and reducing the cabinet depth would have sacrificed useful cigar capacity.
Newsham’s Woodshop planned the cabinet around the chimney instead of treating it as an afterthought. The finished double-deep humidor measures approximately 42 inches wide by 26 inches deep by 72 inches high, giving the shop more usable storage while allowing the cabinet to sit naturally within the building condition.
This type of condition is common in older commercial spaces: the best retail wall is often interrupted by masonry, utilities, or structural elements that cannot move. The design challenge was to keep the cabinet useful and good-looking without pretending the chimney was not there.
Handcrafted Production & Woodworking Execution
The cabinet was manufactured as a custom commercial assembly, not a field-modified stock case. Structural components were glued, screwed, and dowel-joined for stability, with the casework laid out before production to account for the chimney condition. Genuine Spanish Cedar racks were incorporated inside the cigar-facing storage area for proper humidor use and clean product organization.
Because the obstruction was solved in the design and fabrication phase, the finished cabinet looks intentional from the customer side. The project shows the value of true custom millwork: reclaiming difficult space, increasing usable cigar display capacity, and avoiding the awkward compromises that come from forcing standard cabinetry into a non-standard room.
The deeper cabinet format made the most of a difficult wall condition. Instead of losing display capacity to the chimney, the project turned the obstruction into a reason for a made-to-measure cabinet that fits the shop and solves the problem cleanly.

Custom Deep Commercial Humidor Cabinet Display
This custom deep commercial humidor cabinet was designed to solve an unusual layout problem: wrapping humidified cigar display and storage around an existing chimney while still giving the customer a clean, finished retail presentation.
For Lake Geneva Spice Co. in Lake Geneva, WI, Newsham’s Woodshop manufactured a custom double-depth humidor cabinet measuring approximately 42″W x 26″D x 72″H. The front-facing side provides visible cigar display, while the deeper rear section creates additional backstock storage inside the same footprint.

Why This Layout Matters
A standard cabinet would not have solved the space constraint. This project required a custom cabinet layout that used the available footprint efficiently while preserving the appearance of a finished retail display. The double-depth design allowed the customer to keep product visible from the front while maintaining additional storage behind the display area.
